Eagle, by Mark Breckenridge

Competition Winner, 2010
The bald eagle has always inspired stories and legends both among the native peoples and later the settlers from Europe. Just to see a bald eagle is said to bring good fortune. And today many people travel to remoter areas just in hopes of glimpsing one. The irony is that, having just completed this sculpture this spring, I have had two sightings of bald eagles for the first time in my life as they pass by my area on their way to their summer grounds. The bald eagle is made of approx 1/2 recycled material and 1/2 new material.
Mark Breckenridge has had his own welding shop for the last 15 years, and found the impulse to create art through this work growing stronger and stronger. Art has grown to take over the most of his time and effort. He most likes to create works based on the natural world.
